Post Halloween Funnies

I was recently asked to do a family portrait, which is kind of nerve wrecking in one aspect, but also kind of funny and exciting at the same time. I think back to the first blog I posted and how I mentioned that I found it very difficult to become a professional photographer but mainly because it was my lack of effort that restricted me. I made a small effort at getting recognized and boom! haha like BOOM! I get a request. It's nerve wrecking because I have never tried professional portraits. I sure am hoping that it will work out, I am hoping that the session goes well and that my client is happy with the results.

Here is to hoping.

If anyone has any tips please feel free to share your thoughts by adding a comment below (please include your name so I know who to thank)

 Furthermore!

Halloween is officially over which also means that it's time to post a few fun shots (I didn't take my camera out with me because there was a high risk of it getting severely damaged)

This is me, pre-halloween bash as Freda Krueger!

We had many discussions regarding this costume, whether he was Jesus, a diehard gamer or himself in 10 years, either way we left it to the imaginations of others and he quickly became a show stopper!

 Scream!
Friendliest spider that you will ever know!
Just a few fun photos that I wanted to share. Again stayed tuned to see my blog about kids and photography!

Here I am sitting at work with my Halloween costume on. It doesn't matter how old I am, I always enjoy dressing up. Not only do I love dressing up, but I also think it's a great time of year full of photo opportunities!
So stayed tuned for my upcoming Halloween blog and to follow up I will also be blogging about children!

Instagram and phone camera

In this day and age we all get sucked into all sorts of new social networks, social media, social this and that, we try to stay connected right? I'm not better, I will openly admit that I am and have always been addicted to Instagram, it's a very passionate love affair.
I'll explain:
I try not to shy away from any form of digital photography or any social network that will allow me to share my work (hence the new blogspot). Instagram posed a huge opportunity for me, facebook, myspace, flickster so on and so forth.
Soo my point is, I make use of my cell phone as often as my usual Canon camera.
Plus with all the great apps out there, cell phones and Instragram are just another photographers delight, its' that added cinnamon sprinkle on the cool whip (I've read books of photographers that utilize their phone just as much as their cameras because it's just handy).

I think my real point is, don't under estimate the power of your phone, it's capable of capturing truly amazing things in a moment when you don't have your trusty camera on hand.
Here are a few takes from my phone (Samsung Galaxy 1) and Instagram.

Sunrise

2011 Summer out at Otter Lake Saskatchewan, 5:45 am sunrise.
A little bit of dedication to your photography, and you will not be disappointed.

This is a moment in my life, that I am happy I put a camera between myself and the beauty of nature. I cheated at this particular moment because I had a tripod, so I was able to experience this moment with my full emotions, as well as capture the moment on video and picture.

Forever in my memory bank.

Amateur Photographer

As an amateur photographer I find that it is difficult to emerge into the lime light of those who are professional. Basically, I'm finding it very hard to become a professional photographer. Mostly because I do not have the money it takes but also, I am my worst critic! However at the same time, I'm not giving much effort into photography as I should, I take photos simply because I love it. Documenting a moment in time that my mind won't likely remember, a term I learned recently is referred to as "documentia". A condition in which a person will place a camera between themselves and a specific moment they consider "special" or "important". They will catch every moment on camera, whether in a photo or on video. They don't really get to have the full emotional experience of the moment but they've captured it.
Whether it's a good thing or a bad thing, is open to discussion but I for one am proud to say that I have "documentia". I will click click click away and as often as I possibly can, I will continue to share with people parts of my memory.

So here I am attempting my first blog spot dedicated entirely to my photography.
As I said above, sharing moments and sharing parts of my memory, where I've been and what I've done and with whom.
Below are 2 photos I took while out hiking in Northern Saskatchewan.

Photo 1: Nut Point Hiking trail - Fall season and getting close to sunset. I was just closing up my day with the shot.

Photo 2:  Taken on the "Molenosa" Road as locals call it. I peered into the bush and decided that I had seen the perfect shot, so I husted butt and grabbed my camera and this is the result.

That being said, I hope you enjoy what you see. I sure enjoyed giving my time to photography.
I will add more photos in time.
